MINUTEMEN APPLAUD HEARINGS BY HOUSE ON BORDER VULNERABILITIES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MINUTEMEN APPLAUD HEARINGS BY HOUSE ON BORDER VULNERABILITIES

PHOENIX, AZ (July 5, 2006) – Chris Simcox, President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (“MCDC”), released the following statement on and the field hearings by the House Committee on International Relations, Subcommittee on International Terrorism and Nonproliferation, chaired by Edward R. Royce.

“While the Senate Judiciary Chairman Arlen Specter holds a competing hearing designed to further a guest worker amnesty, Chairman Ed Royce and the House appear to be focused on the real issue at hand in their first field hearing:  Border Vulnerabilities and International Terrorism.

“The President of the United States admitted in a nationwide, primetime address on illegal immigration that we do not have operational control of our borders.  That is a startling admission by our Commander in Chief.  Yet the President’s determination to allow our borders to remain woefully unsecured is baffling to the American people in this time of war against terrorists who seek to kill Americans citizens and destroy our way of life.

“The critical need is to secure this nation's borders with federal troops immediately. Chairman Royce and the House of Representatives must understand one fact in this hearing above all:  in deploying federal troops along America’s borders, there is no conflict with the Posse Comitatus Act, as the war zone that is America’s southern frontier and the wide-open northern border do not represent a law enforcement matter—but a matter of national security. We must establish operational control over our borders immediately. Far too much time has already been wasted in the foolish political effort advancing amnesty disguised as a so-called temporary guest worker program and falsely linking border security to immigration reform.   The American people wisely will ONLY accept border security NOW—all other considerations are off the table until our borders are SECURE.

“The political pandering to the estimated 12-30 million illegal aliens already in our country and to their employers desirous of a steady pool of slave-wage labor needs to stop until our nation’s territorial integrity is reestablished.  Then politics as usual will doubtless resume.  But not today.  Today, the urgent need is for Congress to fund and IMMEDIATELY ACHIEVE a substantial increase in deployed border security elements: we must build fences and barriers, dedicate satellites and other technology to our border security and put armed troops on the ground along the border at once.

“According to the Department of Homeland Security’s own Inspector General, 45,008 illegal aliens from countries on the U.S. list of state-sponsors of terror (SST) and from countries that protect terrorists (SIC) were released onto the streets of America and it is still not known how many of these illegals, if any, were actually deported.

“As the U.S. Senate continues to obstruct real border security, playing politics with America’s security and sovereignty, tens of thousands of potential terrorists are roaming U.S. territory free to plan, plot and carry out violent, hostile, potentially devastating attacks on American soil.  Unarmed members of the National Guard have been deployed to our southern frontier to do vehicle maintenance and paperwork while our borders remain wide open to terrorists, arms and drug traffickers, rapists, thieves, murderers and millions of illegal, unidentified migrants.

“For far too long the American taxpayer has funded these disastrous and feckless policies.  As a result, the American people do not trust our politicians when they say they will secure the border, despite the overwhelming resources at the government's disposal and the clear mandate by the electorate to have the government act to reestablish border control.  The time is long overdue for our representatives in government to EARN the trust of the American people. Stop the bleeding. Secure the borders NOW.”
