Mr.'s Dyda and Taylor, co-directors of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, Lake Havasu City chapter 62, applaud the unanimous Lake Havasu City Council decision to move forward with the proposed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), between the US Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, and the city.
Section 287g of the Immigration and Nationality Act allows for the apprehension and detention of illegal aliens by local law enforcement. This MoA will apply national funds earmarked for the preparation and training of local law enforcement agencies in the performance of their duties as it pertains to illegal aliens, to Lake Havasu's police department.
By moving ahead with this action the city is joining with other cities across this nation in preparing local law enforcement agencies to deal safely and properly with the increasingly difficult problem of illegal alien disregard for US law. Application of federally provided training can only enhance the ability of our law enforcement officers to perform their duties while protecting the local citizens, themselves and, indeed, the illegal aliens they encounter.
Many thanks to the Mayor and City Council for having the foresight and courage to keep our city moving forward.
