SUPERVISOR PAUL NEWMAN TO BE INVESTIGATED BY COUNTY ATTORNEY

DEMOCRAT CREATES FEAR IN COMMUNITY WITH HATE SPEECH

Cochise County Supervisor, Paul Newman’s vicious, discriminatory attack on citizens’ participation in a peaceful assembly may have landed him in legal hot water for violating executive meeting laws.
District 3 Supervisor Richard Searle firmly said he disapproved of comments on law enforcement and Planning and Zoning recommendations Newman made during a press conference on Friday. In question are hysterical and inaccurate remarks not only about the Minuteman Project but also with comments Newman made insinuating that supervisor Call and Searle did not take the Minuteman Project seriously.
“Although my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors disagree with me, I believe it is irresponsible for us to sit back and take a wait-and-see attitude in light of the prospect of a large gathering of armed individuals whose purpose is to take the law into their own hands.” Newman stated in his official press release.
Searle stated he disapproved of Newman’s misleading statements that were incorrect and he felt the comments were in violation of Arizona revised Statutes regarding the confidentiality of executive meetings.
In his press release Newman went on to state: “I implore my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors to wake up and use the powers at our disposal to ensure safety and security for Cochise County citizens.”
“How did you know we disagreed with you – that was supposition on your part but you would never had said that unless it was something discussed during our executive meeting,” challenged supervisor Pat Call.
“Your statements characterizing this board as being not interested in this were wrong. I’m very disappointed –I recommend the county attorney look into it [violations of confidentiality under executive meeting laws].”
Newman was also incorrect in portraying the citizens involved as people whose intent it was to take the law into their own hands. Information on the Minuteman Project website clearly outlines a peaceful, non-threatening approach to observing illegal activity and specifically calls for no contact with people crossing the border illegally.
Simcox Responds
Chris Simcox, co-organizer of the Minuteman Project, released a statement that accuses Newman of discrimination and engaging in hate speech that creates fear and hysterical panic in the community.
“You know I can’t remember a time when I felt more that an elected official should be removed from office. If the tables were turned, comments like Mr. Newman’s would have the A.C.L.U. filing a lawsuit and the Southern Poverty Law Center would have Mr. Newman added to their list of hate mongers. It is clear that Mr. Newman harbors deeply rooted hate for law abiding citizens who have a different opinion about a serious issue that affects the value of every American’s citizenship and civil liberties,” Simcox said of Newman’s comments.
Simcox stated that Newman has never complained about the property damage, and real crimes committed by the hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens who break our laws each day.
“Why has Mr. Newman never released a statement denouncing the real criminals, the environmental damage, the property damage and the actual international incidents that occur every time a Border Patrol agent is assaulted or fired upon by Mexican nationals from the Mexican side of the border? I hope Mr. Newman is tarred and feathered by the county attorney and I’ll certainly back any recall that constituents might want to initiate in an effort to get this lunatic, fascist out of office. I mean, what is he afraid of - citizens stopping the flow of illegal drugs making it harder for Americans to acquire cheat marijuana along with their cheap labor?”
The following is Simcox’ rebuttal released to the press in response to Newman’s statements:
Mr. Newman’s statements represent a most vile and despicable defamation of character of American citizens. Mr. Newman’s comments are a blatant example of the travesty of hate speech meant to create fear and panic in the community, even though he states that is not his intent. Mr. Newmans’ hateful hyperbole and slanderous prejudicial comments that create bias in the public opinion are egregiouly irresponsible for a public official. Mr. Newman should be ashamed of his comments that are based in fear bred from ignorance. Mr. Newman has had the opportunity to make direct contact with organizers of the Minuteman Project and has never once contacted anyone with the group to learn the facts firsthand.
Mr. Newman’s ignorance and hate speech will now create even more panic in the general population. Mr. Newman is obviously ignorant of the fact that a majority of participants in the Minuteman Project are retired law enforcement officers and military veterans who have no intention of enforcing any laws or taking the law into their own hands. The participants will engage in nothing more than sitting in lawn chairs with binoculars to spot suspicious illegal activity and report to the proper authorities and to provide lifesaving aid to individuals in need of assistance.

DESPITE NEWMAN’S “FEAR AND LOATHING” RANT, MINUTEMAN PROJECT NOT REQUIRED TO APPLY FOR SPECIAL PERMITS

Much ado about nothing would be the way to describe concerns espoused by District 2 Supervisor Paul Newman about imposing strict requirements for organizers of the Minuteman Project to abide by zoning regulations. As it turns out the “event” as Newman described it, does not fall under the auspices of any zoning regulations already on the book. Newman asked county administrators to look into the possibility of imposing expanded permitting requirements for such issues as driving along the border road, occupying airspace above Cochise County and demanding a list of the Minuteman Volunteer roster, all which are private information that the county has no authority to oversee.
The Minuteman Project will not be required to apply for any special use permits. At a Cochise County Board of Supervisors workshop on Tuesday morning, Director of County Planning and Zoning Jim Vlahovich said the organizers of the project understand all the regulations and have structured the month-long event in a way that they will not be required to apply for a special use permit for any part of the rally. Vlahovich said he recommends a contact and informational outline be provided to the Highway and Flood Plain department, including details of the car parking locations off the road on a proper right-of-way where they will not create problems with local traffic flow.
“All we need to know is the impact on the of the right-of- way access but I do not see a need, nor is there a requirement for the group to apply for a permit for this activity,” department director James E. Vlahovich told county officials.
As for utilizing the Miracle Valley Bible College, Vlahovich told supervisors that a permit would be required only if volunteers were planning on occupying a 13-room dormitory on the grounds of the college. Chris Simcox, co-organizer of the project, assured Vlahovich that no volunteers would be sleeping in the dormitory. No permit will be required for recreational vehicles and campers who plan on staying at the facility. “The lodging of private citizens is not in the public interest and does not fall under any special permit requirement,” said Vlahovich.
Simcox reported that several local landowners have opened up their property for attendees since Newman’s politically motivated press conference last Friday.
Supervisor Newman has asked county administrator to investigate a list of other possible sanctions or permitting that could be used to regulate the Minuteman volunteers. Newman wants county officials to investigate the possibility of regulating the air space over the area, charging organizers for overtime costs for the sheriff’s department, demanding a list of the private property owners who are hosting volunteers, regulating the erection of temporary structures such as watchtowers, and demanding federal involvement by regulating activities on land owned by the Bureau of Land Management. Newman has also suggested special regulations on participants right to carry weapons, regulations which would be a clear violation of individual Second Amendment rights.
Supervisor Pat Call stated he was not sure such attention to the event was necessary. “We’ve had a number of requests for other events and I don’t want to single any group out with this much special attention,” Call stated.

HOW TO DESTROY AMERICA

We all know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration-overpopulation conference in Washington, D.C., filled to capacity by many of America’s finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor named Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, Mexifornia, explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal - was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.
Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, “If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that ‘An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.’”
“Here is how they do it,” Lamm said:
First to destroy America, “Turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual.
“The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way: ‘The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.’ Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. First:country-region France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans.”
Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, “Invent ‘multiculturalism’ and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the black and Hispanic dropout rates are due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.
Third, “We could make the United States an ‘Hispanic Quebec’ without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: ‘The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.’” Lamm said, “I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America reinforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities.
“Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school.
“My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of ‘Victimology.’ I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.
“My sixth plan for America’s downfall would include dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other.  A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to over- come two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. ‘E. Pluribus Unum’ — ‘From many, one.’ In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the ‘pluribus’ instead of the ‘unum,’ we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo.
“Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits--make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of ‘diversity.’ I would find a word similar to ‘heretic’ in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like ‘racist’ or ‘xenophobe’ halt discussion and debate.
“Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of ‘Victimology,’ I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them.”
In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said,
“Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis’s book Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don’t read that book.”
There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Every discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness. Barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate ‘diversity.’
American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell’s book 1984. In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: “War is peace,” “Freedom is slavery,” and “Ignorance is strength.”
Governor Lamm, walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don’t get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially The American Dream.

DESPITE NEW TECHNOLOGY, BORDER PATROL OVERWHELMED

By Mimi Hall, USA TODAY
Across an expanse of desert where nothing marks the Mexican border but a flimsy line of barbed wire, Border Patrol agent Mitch King flies his helicopter low to search for signs of illegal entry into the USA.
He spots footprints and tire tracks and hovers to get a better look. If the sandy impressions are fresh, he’ll radio agents on the ground. But King’s experienced eyes tell him these prints are at least a day or two old. Now, they serve only as evidence that more people have crossed the border illegally without getting caught.
More than three years after the terrorist attacks in 2001, the 11,000 men and women who serve as the border’s front-line defense are overwhelmed. Despite an influx of new technology, such as underground sensors and cameras that pan the desert, agents catch only about one-third of the estimated 3 million people who cross the border illegally every year.
Most of the illegals are poor Mexican laborers looking for work. But officials are alarmed that a growing number hail from Central and South America, Asia, even Mideast countries such as Syria and Iran. In 2003, the Border Patrol arrested 39,215 so-called “OTMs,” or other-than-Mexicans, along the Southwest border. In 2004, the number jumped to 65,814.
Those figures worry intelligence and Homeland Security officials, who say al-Qaeda leaders want to smuggle operatives and weapons of mass destruction across the nation’s porous land borders. James Loy, deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, told Congress last week, “Several al-Qaeda leaders believe operatives can pay their way into the country through Mexico and also believe illegal entry is more advantageous than legal entry for operational security reasons.”
T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, says the Border Patrol has “reliable intelligence that there are terrorists living in South America, assimilating the culture and learning the language” in order to blend in with Mexicans crossing the border.
“We really don’t know who comes into this country illegally over the Southwest border,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., says. “This is a big problem.”
A steady stream heading north
The independent 9/11 Commission’s report warned in August that “the challenge for national security in an age of terrorism is to prevent the very few people who may pose overwhelming risks from entering or remaining in the United States undetected.” And that’s a daunting task along these stretches of border in the Southwest.
In Mitch King’s territory of remote south-central New Mexico, 109 agents work a 53-mile section of border. They patrol 14,000 square miles of rugged terrain using helicopters, horses and all-terrain and sport-utility vehicles.
Much of the area is far out of reach of the Border Patrol’s cameras and sensors. It’s easily accessible, however, to Mexicans and others who head north illegally across miles of sand dotted with nothing but the occasional cow or coyote. Forced east by tighter security along the California and Arizona borders, migrants cross here on foot and in cars, morning, noon and night - as many as 200 a day along this relatively small stretch of land.
“It goes on all day long, 24/7,” says Richard Moody, the agent in charge of the area. His agents often work 14- to 16-hour days under stressful conditions. Late last month, the driver of a car full of people crossing illegally hit a Border Patrol agent with his side mirror while trying to run him down.
The agents who work for Moody in Luna and two other New Mexico counties caught 170 non-Mexicans in 2002, 293 in 2003 and 678 in 2004. Most are from South and Central America. But the agents also have picked up illegal border-crossers from China, southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Moody’s agents are up against increasingly sophisticated smugglers. Even as the Border Patrol has gotten new high-tech equipment, so have the people they’re trying to catch. Smugglers use two-way radios, cell phones, global positioning systems and other high-tech equipment to watch agents’ movements and alert each other when the coast is clear.
“Ten years ago, they probably could not have bought a pair of infrared night-vision goggles on the open market, but now they can,” says Robert Boatright, assistant chief of the Border Patrol in El Paso. “We see them changing tactics as we change tactics.”
That can be unsettling out in the desert where, unless there’s a full moon, the nights are so dark you can’t see your hand in front of your face. “We’re under 24-hour surveillance by them,” Moody says. “They have a very extensive counterintelligence operation. It certainly keeps us on our toes.”
Ironically, the war on terrorism abroad has slowed the government’s ability to secure the border in some areas.
Along King’s helicopter route, roughly 7 miles of the border are marked by car barriers - 3- to 4-foot high, cement-filled pieces of casing pipe sunk deep in concrete and set every couple of feet. The barriers are in place mostly around the little town of Columbus, the start of a well-traveled smuggling route north to Deming.
The Border Patrol would like the barrier extended, but the Army engineering units and National Guard troops who did the hard work of installing the pipes over the past two years are no longer available.
“We’d like to get the whole area done,” Moody says. “But there are two fronts in the war, and everyone’s out of pocket now in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
High technology, low staffing
Agents say new technology - remote video cameras, unmanned aerial vehicles, more underground sensors, radiation detectors and access to criminal databases and terrorist watch lists - has helped them do their job.
At official ports of entry along the border and at checkpoints set up along highways heading north, the Homeland Security Department has stepped up security since the Sept. 11 attacks. Foreigners who need a visa to enter the USA must be photographed, fingerprinted and checked against terrorist watch lists. Cars and trucks are checked with dogs and radiation-detection equipment.
As a result, those seeking illegal entry have gone elsewhere. “When you crack down in one area, they’re going to try to exploit weaknesses in another area,” Bonner says.
President Bush’s proposed 2006 budget calls for more high-tech gear for the Border Patrol, including $125 million to test and buy more radiation detectors and $51 million to improve sensors and video equipment.
Those who use the equipment, however, say there’s also a desperate need for more “boots on the line” to track and catch illegal immigrants. “The technology is great, but it doesn’t actually go out and get the bodies,” says Jim Stack, an agent in El Paso. “We are extremely short-staffed.”
Although the government has added about 1,300 agents to the force since 2001, there still aren’t nearly enough to patrol the 6,900 miles of border with Mexico and Canada.
Recognizing that need, Congress late last year authorized a near doubling of the size of the agency by adding 2,000 agents a year for the next five years. But this month, the Bush administration’s budget requested $37 million to pay for one-tenth as many agents - 210 - in 2006.
Critics are calling that a grave mistake. “Until we make the investments necessary to protect the border, the country is seriously at risk,” says former congressman Jim Turner of Texas, who was the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee last year.
“The holes that remain in our border security systems are not small,” House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, says. “They are gaping, and they are glaring to our terrorist enemies. They are coming for us.”

AUTHORITIES FIND SMUGGLING TUNNEL IN CALEXICO

By Carlos Vergara
KYMA-TV
CalexicoUSA - This one is located in the 1200 block of east 2nd Street. Sources tell KYMA it may end in a nearby apartment complex, but that it may still be too soon to tell.
Federal agents on both sides of the border are working on entering the tunnel, but have not yet done so due to its vast size.
This latest discovery was made using sonar equipment. Sonar is used now due to the discovery of two other tunnels last year, less than 100 yards from this latest one.”
I still haven’t figured out what (if anything) I can do to lend support to this project, but I am behind it 100%

AL-QUEDA PLANNING TO USE UNDERGROUND SECRET TUNNELS FROM MEXICO TO AMERICA?

Staff Reporter
February 04, 2005
According to some published media reports, Mexican federal agents have found a tunnel in Tijuana, less than a mile from the nearest official border crossing, through which undocumented foreigners and illegal narcotics could enter the San Isidro area near San Diego in southern California, officials said. The tunnel is an underground concrete drainage pipe, 80 feet long and five feet across.
There are many indications that Al-Queda is looking for entering the America using the secret paths used by illegal migrant workers and drug dealers. The Federal Agents in America are also aware of the same and are taking all possible precautions to neutralize these terrorists right at the inception level.
The Mexican authorities are also cooperating knowing very well the only possible way to smuggle a dirty bomb or nuke of any sorts is through Mexico into America through the drug dealers’ secret paths and illegal migrant workers traditional paths in the porous border areas.
Al-Queda will try all means to create another nine-eleven of larger proportion. That fact is well known, but what every- one is trying to pinpoint is how they will enter given the efficiency of the homeland security department.
The Mexican border has many secret entry points. That is how the illegal workers come and go from and to Mexico. And Al-Queda may be using these tunnels and secret paths to smuggle their people and equipments and create sleeping cells.

‘WE THE PEOPLE’ HAVE DETERMINED THAT BEING A WHITE HOUSE “BAG MAN” MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR POLITICAL HEALTH

By S. J. Miller
The votes are counted, and the winner has been inaugurated for “four more years.” Before the ink on our ballots was even dry, President George W. Bush was speaking of the “mandate” he believes he has.
Americans are only now learning what this “mandate” means, because the President was very vague (or totally silent) about these changes during his campaign. Even Americans who admit voting for him didn’t expect him to be so cocky, dismissing Americans’ outrage at his indifference to our opinions.
So far, we’ve only heard about his “Social Security reform” and amnesty for illegal aliens. Americans’ opposition to what we’ve heard is widespread, recognizing that Bush big-money cronies will benefit at the expense of American taxpayers.
WOULD YOU BUY A USED CAR (OR ANYTHING) FROM THIS MAN?
During his SOTU speech, the President outlined several items he wants Congress to pass during his second term. But our experience during his first term has taught us his word can’t be trusted. Regardless of our individual political leanings, we find ourselves unable to put faith in anything that comes from the White House, remembering:
The invasion of Iraq based on Weapons of Mass Destruction that he now claims was “faulty intelligence”
“Medicare Reform & Prescriptions” whose price tag of $534 billion was falsified by the White House down to $400 billion because “that’s the maximum that Congress will approve”
Bear Stearns Investment has just released a study giving the true number of illegal aliens in the US as “20 million plus,” not the 8-12 million that the Bush Administration keeps citing as eligible for his “guest worker” amnesty.
And those are only three that we’ve learned about so far!
Would any intelligent citizen accept the President’s reassurance on these “reforms?” The Bush “Social Security Reform (including the Social Security Treaty with Mexico),” the Bush “tax reform,” the LOST treaty that will allow the UN to tax Americans, the Bush amnesty for illegal aliens, the Bush Military Draft Resumption, the Bush FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas) and the Bush invasion of Iran? Will newly-appointed Secretary of State Rice do a re-play for the UN of Colin Powell’s “weapons of mass destruction” slide show to justify our forced “regime change” in Iran?
You haven’t heard the President or Congress mention Military Draft Resumption, the FTAA or the Invasion of Iran? Stick Around. . .
SO WHAT’S NEXT?
Many Americans think, “Well, there’s nothing we can do. We’re stuck with him for ‘four more years.’” Not necessarily.
We’ve all heard the term “lame duck,” describing the loss of political influence by a sitting president during his final two years. But George W. Bush may be losing steam even earlier; even conservative political pundits suggest that Bush may have alienated so many Republicans as to become a premature lame duck.
Working through our members of Congress, “We the People” can speed up that process.
GIVE THE WHITE HOUSE THE COLD SHOULDER.
Don’t make phone calls to the White House Comment Line.
Don’t sent e-mails or faxes to the White House.
Don’t write letters of outrage. By the time they’re “sanitized” and actually reach the White House, the President will have done it anyway, no matter that citizens are opposed.
Don’t even send a birthday or Christmas card.
Why waste our time on someone who clearly doesn’t care what we want? The President has made it clear that he’ll pursue his anti-American agenda no matter how many of us are opposed..
The White House can’t help but notice a reduced level of e-mail, faxes, and phone calls. Just as increased “chatter” on terrorist channels causes official alarm, reduced “chatter” from citizens should draw attention from the multitude of White House political analysts.
WHO TO CONTACT
George W. Bush was re-elected President, not King. Even if he doesn’t care about Americans, he does care about members of Congress. The President still depends on Congressional cooperation to introduce his legislation and vote for its passage.
And Congress cares about voters (that’s where we come in). All 435 Congress members face re-election in 2006 - along with the 34 Senators listed below. More than anything, members of Congress care about re-election. They’re much less likely to support the Bush agenda if they believe it endangers their re-election.
By making it clear that members of Congress will alienate voters by doing the President’s bidding, we’ll make it that much harder for the President to get the Congressional cooperation he needs to enact his “mandate.”
Here’s how “we the people” can achieve that:
(1) Send a weekly e-mail or fax to your 2 US Senators and 1 Congressman, telling them:
You’ve stopped contacting the White House, since the President has made it clear that he’ll do what he wants despite citizens’ objections.
You oppose all the President’s agenda (or the specific items you oppose) because you don’t believe the President is protecting American citizens’ interests.
You’ll be voting in 2006, and refuse to vote for anyone who introduces the President’s legislation or votes to support them.
Begin your letter with “Subject: WARNING TO CONGRESS—“We the People” have determined that being a White House “Bag Man” may be may be hazardous to your Political Health.”
Send comments on other issues separately. Limiting this message to the “WARNING TO CONGRESS” will make this one more effective.
(2) Follow up your weekly written message with a phone call. You’ll find the local office number in your phone directory or on the website.
(3) Contact your governor and the state branch of your political party (Republican or Democrat) with the same message.
(4) Repeat the process each week; let them know your resolve won’t fade over the months. If you don’t know your senators and congressman, you’ll find them on www.senate.gov and www.house.gov. Their phone numbers (local and Washington, D.C.), addresses and e-mail pages are on their websites or your local phone directory. If you don’t have your own FAX or e-mail, send a “snail-mail” letter to their local office and avoid the “sanitizing” delay to Washington.
IMPORTANT: Don’t use web-based FAX systems like capwiz, NumbersUSA or FAIR for this letter. They’re intended for specific legislation campaigns, but they’re useless for this effort. I’ve actually been told by Senator Kyl’s office that these “blast faxes” aren’t even read, much less answered. (I then realized that I’ve never received a reply to any “blast” fax I’ve sent). Better to send e-mail from their congressional websites than “blast faxes.”
SENATORS FACING RE-ELECTION IN 2006:
Democrats: CA-Diane Feinstein, CT-Joe Liebermann, DE-Thomas Carper, FL-Bill Nelson, HI-Daniel Akaka,MA-Ted Kennedy, MD-Paul Sarbanes, MI-Debbie Stabenow, MN-Mark Dayton, NE-Ben Nelson, NM-Jeff Bingamon, NY-Hillary Clinton, ND-Kent Conrad, NJ-Jon Corzine, WI-Herb Kohl, WVa-Robert Byrd, WA-Maria Cantwell
Republicans: AZ-Jon Kyl, IN-Richard Lugar, ME-Olympia Snowe, MS-Trent Lott, MT-Conrad Burns, MO-James Talent, NV-John Ensign, OH-Mike DeWine, PA-Rick Santorum, RI-Lincoln Chafee, TN-Bill Frist, TX-Kay Bailey Hutchinson, UT-Orrin Hatch, VA-George Allen, WY-Craig Thomas
Independent: AL-James Jeffords
THE PRESIDENT ISN’T AS OBLIVIOUS AS HE APPEARS
The President is well aware of citizens’ opposition to Congress members who promote his agenda. Several who introduced his “guest-worker” amnesty for illegal aliens during the last Congress experienced narrow 2004 election victories. Congressmen Dave Dreier (R, CA), Jim Kolbe (R, AZ), and Chris Cannon (R, AZ).
The President can’t let his “shills” be pink-slipped by outraged voters, or the rest would desert like rats on a sinking ship. I’m convinced that’s the reason for Kolbe’s consideration as trade representative, and anticipate similar presidential appointments for Cannon, Dreier, and perhaps even Senator Jon Kyl.
Congressional Republicans can always hope that loyalty to the White House will get them an appointed office if their defeat seems likely at the 2006 election. That will allow them to continue feeding at the taxpayers’ trough through Bush Term #2. Democrats are out of luck if voters boot them out, so they’re likely to be more sensitive to voters’ outrage.
But that’s a problem for Karl Rove and the White House.
We Americans have a country to save. So let’s roll.
POLL: Should President Bush Grant Amnesty to Illegal Aliens?

AMERICANS LOSE $68 BILLION A YEAR FROM IMMIGRATION

Study Examines Harm to American Workers
Using a new approach, Columbia University economists David Weinstein and Donald Davis estimate the net economic losses from immigration to Americans. Unlike earlier studies, this new model does not treat the movement of immigrant labor into the country simply as a result of abundant resources and demand for labor, assumptions more appropriate to the 19th century. Rather, the model takes into account globalization, the technological superiority of the American economy, and the resulting high standard of living.
The Center for Immigration Studies Backgrounder, United States Technological Superiority and the Losses from Migration, is on line at http://www.cis.org/articles/2005/back205.html . Among the report’s findings:
* In 2002, the net loss to U.S. natives from immigration was $68 billion.
* This $68 billion annual loss represents a $14 billion increase just since 1998. As the size of the immigrant population has continued to increase, so has the loss.
* The decline in wages is relative to the price of goods and services, so the study takes into account any change in consumer prices brought about by immigration.
* The negative effect comes from increases in the supply of labor, and not the legal (or illegal) status of immigrants.
* While natives lose from immigration, the findings show that immigrants themselves benefit substantially by coming to America.
* Those who remain behind in their home countries also benefit from the migration of their countrymen.
About the Authors: Donald R. Davis and David E. Weinstein are both professors of economics at Columbia University, as well as Research Associates at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Both authors are recognized as among the nation’s leading experts in international economics. This paper updates a June 2002 NBER working paper entitled “Technological Superiority and the Losses from Migration.” The NBER is one of the nation’s leading economic research institutions. For those wishing a much more detailed and technical explanation than the one presented here please see the NBER paper at http://www.columbia.edu/~drd28/Migration.pdf .
Harvard Economist George Borjas, who is generally recognized as the nation’s leading immigration economist, stated “Weinstein and Davis’ work represents an important new approach for calculating the net benefits accruing to the United States from immigration. As in earlier calculations, immigration does not create substantial net economic benefits for native-born Americans. In fact, Weinstein and Davis conclude that the effect on natives may be both large and negative.
Methodology: The model used in this study can be summarized as follows: High U.S. productivity motivates the entry of foreign workers and capital. As a consequence, the movement of foreign labor and capital into the United States expands U.S. exports and reduces exports by foreign countries, which now have fewer workers and less capital. This depresses the prices of U.S. exports while raising the price of its imports, which is bad for U.S. natives.
While the addition of immigrant workers makes the overall U.S. economy larger, natives in the United States are worse off because immigrants take not just the increase in income, but other income as well. This is because American workers are now competing with foreign workers who, because they have entered the United States, now have access to superior American technology, which is the primary source of American workers’ competitive advantage in the international economy. In other words, American workers are better off competing with foreigners if the foreign workers stay in their own countries and don’t have access to American technology. By allowing the foreign workers into the United States, Americans face competition with foreigners equipped with American technology.
Policy Discussion: The authors do not make any specific policy recommendations. They point out that non-economic factors should also be considered when formulating immigration policy. However, if the well-being of natives is a primary concern, then lawmakers may wish to consider the negative economic effects on native-born Americans.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT MS-13 GANG INITIATIONS

By Barry Davis, KENS 5 Eyewitness News
They are one of the most violent gangs in America. And they are massing on the Texas-Mexico border. KENS 5 first told you last fall about the Mara Salvatrucha and their reported meeting with Al-Qaeda.  This time, KENS 5 introduces you to a former gang member who, like many in the gang, crossed into the United State illegally.
According to this former member, every new recruit that tries to get into Mara Salvatrucha, or MS 13, has to endure a 13-second beating by other gang members.
“Yes, shot them with a pistol,” Johnathan Reyes said.  Johnathan Reyes, 17, is a former member and said he killed two people in the name of the gang.
“You have to prove yourself as a gang member who’s the meanest, and everyone has to be scared of you,” Reyes said. Only now, Reyes is the scared one. And he has good reason. He quit a gang known for its extreme violence.
One example of this violence is an incident in which a man did not pay his rent to the Mara Salvatrucha.  “They went to his house, raped his wife, killed his mother and they killed everyone else and cut him into pieces and they set his house on fire,” Reyes said.
The gang started in Los Angeles in the 1980s. They were Salvadorans who banded together because other gangs targeted them. Many were deported back to El Salvador and the gang grew from there. Many in the gang come to Laredo and other border towns by train. According to police, they board the trains in Central America and head into Chiapas, Mexico. They then continue north until they get to Monterrey, which appears to be a switching point. From there they head to border towns, like Laredo. Officials believe the gang has spread to nine other states and Washington, D.C.
“The problem that exists is that they are being involved in the smuggling of aliens and drugs,” Sgt. Armando Elizondo of the Laredo Police Department said.  Elizondo said they occasionally catch members in Laredo where they get as much information as they can, then turn them over to federal authorities. The smuggling of illegal immigrants by the gang may be the most troubling.
Mexican officials claim the gang may have met with at least one member of Al-Qaeda.  But some officials say these reports are untrue.  Jose Valdez, the director of public safety in Nuevo Laredo, denies the reports, but said the gang is in Mexico. “I can tell you it is a national alert. Anyone that isn’t a Mexican national will be deported to their native country,” Valdez said.
And although he doubts the gang has met with Al-Qaeda, he said nothing would surprise him in regards to the gang. “What they’re looking for is money and if they’re paying up, then they’ll do it,” Reyes said.
The FBI says they have heard the rumors and from everything they have found, the rumors are untrue.  Regardless, law enforcement officials along the border aren’t taking any chances. Every suspected gang member caught is photographed, fingerprinted, catalogued, and handed over to federal authorities.
